My Journey: From Chronic Health Struggles to Lasting Healing
My journey into creating the Take Health Into Your Own Hands program began as a deeply personal quest for healing from chronic health issues.
As a college student starting my journey as a social entrepreneur, I was drawn to the idea of creating pattern-breaking change. However, it wasn’t until I turned this idea inward that the true meaning of transformation became clear: how could I break the patterns of chronic health struggles in my own life, and then help others do the same?
For years, I was told by Western doctors that I was in "excellent health," yet my daily reality told a different story. I was constantly battling anxiety, chronic aches and pains, persistent stomach issues, disordered eating, and debilitating periods that left me feeling drained and unproductive.
Compounding these issues was trauma from past abuse, which left me battling PTSD and feeling unable to get through the day, much less function at my best or be productive.
Despite looking fine on the surface, I was far from thriving. I felt lost, helpless, and hopeless inside.
I turned to the usual remedies: yoga, diets, therapy, and mindfulness practices. While they brought fleeting moments of relief, nothing seemed to address the root causes of my suffering. My confidence dwindled, my body felt weak, and I remained stuck in a cycle of temporary fixes that only masked the deeper issues.
What changed everything was discovering Ayurveda. This ancient, holistic health system not only addressed my symptoms, but it looked beyond them to uncover the true causes of my health challenges.
Ayurveda taught me that health is not just the absence of disease – it is the presence of harmony between the body, mind, and spirit. It’s about balancing the energy within your body, nourishing your digestive system, and addressing the emotional and mental stress that contribute to chronic conditions.
I began to see the profound connection between my mind and body, and I started making simple yet powerful lifestyle changes that shifted everything. My anxiety began to ease, my digestion improved, and I found myself experiencing a new level of energy and clarity. The pain that had plagued my body for years started to fade, and I began to understand my body in a way I never had before.
But even with this newfound sense of well-being, life still threw challenges my way. A betrayal by someone I trusted and a life-threatening car accident shook me to my core. In the past, these experiences might have sent me spiraling back into old patterns of coping. But Ayurveda had given me the tools to face these difficulties with resilience and grace.
Instead of turning to medications or quick fixes, I leaned deeper into Ayurveda’s practices. I turned to food as medicine, embraced healing herbs, and practiced mindfulness and self-care to rebuild my strength – mentally, physically, and emotionally.
This transformation became the foundation for my first book, The Way of the Goddess, which went on to win multiple national and international awards. It also inspired me to expand my work and teach others how they too can reclaim their health, whether they’re battling chronic pain, digestive issues, emotional trauma, or stress.
Along the way, I’ve been regularly featured in top media outlets like Good Day New York, MindBodyGreen, and Forbes, and have grown a social media following of over 108,000 followers on Instagram.
These principles have also empowered me to achieve physical feats I once thought impossible. In just a few months’ time, I went from someone still scarred by old memories of shin splints while training for the high school cross country team, which I quit before the season even started due to the pain in my shins, to running 5K daily with competitive times.
Today, I train twice a day, including running and martial arts, all while honoring my body’s needs and boundaries – a balance I would have never found without Ayurveda.
Ayurveda provided me with more than healing; it became a lifestyle that led me to a life of purpose and service that I always felt called to live.
